“Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch” (Genesis 4:17). “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth” (Genesis 11:4).

Message summary: Our spiritual challenge today is the ancient peril of trying to make a name for ourselves. Our supreme goal in life is to honor and extol the Name above all names!

“May Jesus Christ Be Praised!”

Lancaster County farm scene

When morning gilds the skies,
My heart awaking cries:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

“They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy” (Psalm 65:8). “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised”  (Psalms 113:3).

Message summary: We have many choices today. Some are relatively inconsequential, others are very important. The most important choice we make is to love and serve God. And one way we can do that is by joining millions of our redeemed brothers and sisters on this earth in praising the name of the Lord!

“O But God”

Ephesians 2:4,5

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:4-10).

Message summary: Today’s message has bad news and good news, separated by a “but”.

O Yes, He Cares!

“Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God?’ Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.  He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak”  (Isaiah 40:27-29).

Message summary: Let us realize God always cares!

“The Redemption Transformation”

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:17-24).

Message summary: When one earnestly comes to Christ there is a redemption transformation. “You, however, did not come to know Christ that way” (Ephesians 4:20). Rather than having a continual lust for more wickedness may we become seekers of God’s Kingdom and desire more purity and righteousness.
