“Our Redeemer Is Strong!”

2 Corinthians 12:9

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘The people of Israel are oppressed, and the people of Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to let them go. Yet their Redeemer is strong; the LORD Almighty is His name. He will vigorously defend their cause so that He may bring rest to their land, but unrest to those who live in Babylon'” (Jeremiah 50:33,34). “But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Message summary: Believing friend, God is working on your behalf today. Our Redeemer is strong. He is your advocate and vigorously defends your cause. Even when we are weak.

“A Dead Rat”

“David asked, ‘Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?'” (2 Samuel 9:1). Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” (2 Samuel 9:8). “So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate always at the king’s table. Now he was lame in both his feet” (2 Samuel 9:13).

Message summary: We rightly despair at our hopeless condition apart from Christ’s redemption. But what glorious hope we have in Christ!

“This Is Not Where I Belong”

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

Message summary: In the last two messages we have written about the vital importance of maintaining a tight grip. But today let us also consider a tremendous application in life in keeping a loose grip! When we focus on the things pertaining only to this life our inner peace quickly diminishes. Frankly, we would be driven to deep despair if we placed our hope in seeing this world’s problems solved politically!

“The Goodness of God”

“May Your saints rejoice in Your goodness” (2 Chronicles 6:41). “The goodness of God endures continually” (Psalm 52:1). “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45). “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:25,26).

Message summary: God’s goodness is an immutable attribute, thus it does not change, “The goodness of God endures continually”. It’s part of His divine nature. The mysteries or questions we have regarding God’s goodness are due to our finite understanding and limited knowledge, never a deficiency in His attribute of goodness.

“Anna”

“There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them [Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus] at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem” (Luke 2:36-38).
