“Heart Protector”

Above all else, protect your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

Message summary: There is a great deception and powerful delusion that is sweeping our world. I am even more convinced of the absolute importance of protecting my heart from deception and I believe that’s true for all of us!

“Honey In The Rock”

“But He would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you” (Psalm 81:16). “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103). “My son, eat honey, for it is good, Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste” (Proverbs 24:13). “Then He said to me, ‘Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.’ So I opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll. He said to me, ‘Son of man, feed your stomach and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you.’ Then I ate it, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth” (Ezekiel 3:1-3).

Message summary: The Psalmist wrote, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Throughout the day may we all taste of the goodness of the Lord as it lingers in our thoughts and thereby in our actions! Perhaps we all need a sign that reads, “Spiritual Munching Allowed!” or better yet, “Spiritual Munching Encouraged!

Lessons From The Redwood Tree (Part 2) “Strengthening Friends”

“And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God” (1 Samuel 23:16). “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:25). “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” (Romans 12:4-5).

Message summary: We want to help others find strength in God. Today let us put this into practice in our life. We all know of weary, discouraged and fearful people like David. Let us help them find strength in God!

“Tested By Fire”

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:3-9).

Message summary: We will all, in various ways, be tested by fire. May God give us His assurance that these trials, in whatever form they appear “may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ”.

“Fading Leaves”

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers” (Psalm 1:1-3). “You will be like an oak with fading leaves” (Isaiah 1:30).

Message summary: Am I like an “oak with fading leaves” or like “a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither”?

“A Restoration Of Righteousness”

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34 NASV).

Message summary: The political leadership chosen tomorrow certainly influences the fate of our nation, but the greatest need is for individuals, families, churches, and communities to follow the pattern of 2 Chronicles 7:14 that teaches us to humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways. We pray for a restoration of righteousness in our land!

“The World Was Not Worthy Of Them”

“Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated — the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground” (Hebrews 11:35-38).

Message summary: Let us stand for the One who also knew the jeering scorn of unbelief and rejection and gave His life for us.

“Not Maintenance-Free”

“Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:7b,8).

Note: I returned home from San Francisco early Thursday morning (2:30AM) and due to weariness and a load of catch-up work we did not post a message yesterday.

Message summary:  Today we encourage you to recognize that your life, both physical and spiritual is not maintenance-free. We must “exercise self-control in all things” (1 Corinthians 9:25) and “train ourselves to be godly”. A foundational component of this maintenance is the implementation of God’s Word to our hearts so that it is carried out in our actions. Remember, in regard to the pursuit of godliness, we are always in maintenance mode!

“Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor” (Part 5)

We who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Hebrews 6:19).

Personal Note: This morning I am headed out to San Francisco to visit my oldest brother Mike for several days. My other older brother Pat will be meeting us out there as well. Mike has been a widower for many years and his daughter and family lives in Saint Louis. We hope he joins us for a church service.

We expect to continue to share Daily Encouragement messages but the timing may be different due to the time zone. (Although Brooksyne won’t be with me we can collaborate using Dropbox.)

Message summary: All this week we have used both the same verse and theme song as we consider twelve types of hope we have in Christ, highlighting three each day. Place your hope in Christ the sure and steady Anchor, an overflowing, living and eternal  hope! Today we consider the final three ways in which Jesus Christ is our sure and steady anchor of hope. Points 1-3 were shared in Tuesday’s message and 4-6 in Wednesday’s message and 7-9 in Thursday’s message.
