“Another Trip Around The Sun”

“Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:2,12).

Message summary: The timeless challenge issued by Joshua echoes throughout the ages: “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:14,15).

“Dead End Road”

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). “Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take” (Jeremiah 31:21).  “The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life” (Proverbs 16:17). “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13,14).

Message summary: On the spiritual highway road signs and guideposts are surely the directions in the Holy Scriptures, God’s life map for each of us. But there are a lot misleading signposts in life and in many cases people are intentionally creating signage that directs us in the wrong direction. How vitally important to discern the right signage in life! The Scriptures are an absolutely reliable map to direct our paths in the course of living here on earth while also directing our hearts toward the life hereafter.

“Swimming Upstream In A Downstream Culture”

“Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent His angel and rescued His servants! They trusted in Him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God” (Daniel 3:28).

Message summary: As we remain faithful and stand against our culture to obey God rather than man we will one day receive a commendation from the King of kings and Lord of lords! Let us determine that we will swim upstream in a downstream cuture.

“Persevere!”

“Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Timothy 4:15,16).

Message summary: May God help each of us to stay faithful and stay the course, for both ourselves and for our hearers! “God, help me to stay the course and persevere today!”

“In His Right Mind”

When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid” (Mark 5:15).

Message summary: Today let’s consider this marvelous evidence of deliverance of a formerly demon-possessed man “dressed and in his right mind”. His upside down world had been turned right-side up!

“The Assurance Of God’s Providence”

“Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him” (Genesis 37:20). “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Genesis 50:20). “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Message summary: God is always active in His children, intending to work out even the most difficult situations for our good. What blessed assurance when “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). That’s the assurance of God’s providence!

“Turning The World Right-side Up”

“These who have turned the world upside down have come here too” (Acts 17:6).

Note: Today Brooksyne and Ester are returning home from a family visit. I will be picking them up this afternoon in Baltimore.

Message summary: Today we need to recognize the world is upside down and we must not get accustomed to think it’s normal. The world is deeply marred by sin to the extent that it’s upside down! The life-transforming message of Christ remains the world’s greatest hope both for individuals and for nations in turning the world right-side up”.

“The Steps Of A Good Man”

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and he delights in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholds him with His hand” (Psalm 37:23,24). “Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet” (Psalm 140:4). “We all stumble in many ways” (James 3:2).

Note: Brooksyne is still in Tulsa visiting with her family along with Ester and they will be returning tomorrow afternoon. Thus these messages won’t have the benefit of her input and editing and I will be reading the podcast solo!

Message summary: Have you goofed up, messed up, or even blown it big time? Perhaps you are in the process of trying to stand again after you’ve fallen. Call on the name of the Mighty God of the universe. As you take hold of the Lord’s righteous right hand He will pick you up. He will come and save you.

“Spiritual Clutter”

“Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your Word” (Psalm 119:37). “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for Whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith” (Philippians 3:7-9).

Note: Brooksyne is in Tulsa visiting with her family along with Ester and they will be returning Wednesday afternoon. This weekend they were in Arkansas. Thus these messages won’t have the benefit of her input and editing and I will be reading the podcast solo!

Message summary: Today we consider the ultimately worthless. When viewed through spiritual eyes all the neat stuff of this present life that is so visually appealing and sought after is worthless in comparison to that which really matters from an eternal perspective. That’s what we need to constantly remember.
